2003-07-04   FusionSound, the DirectFB among the sound libraries

FusionSound is a very powerful audio sub system in the manner of DirectFB and a technical demonstration of Fusion.

FusionSound supports multiple applications using Fusion IPC. It provides streams, static sound buffers and control over any number of concurrent playbacks. Sample data is always stored in shared memory, starting a playback simply adds an entry to the playlist of the mixer thread in the master application.

FusionSound currently is a module of DirectFB. The current API is fully implemented and the complete code is smaller than just the header file of DirectFB! There's a complete API Reference to learn more about FusionSound.

FusionSound is only available via CVS, yet. It also requires the CVS version of DirectFB. FusionSound will be released together with DirectFB 0.9.19 quite soon.

FusionSound future plans include interfaces for hardware/software codecs, hardware gain control, device configuration and different device backends (currently OSS).

2003-05-14   Quake3 running on XDirectFB with hardware accelerated DirectFBGL

Native DirectFBGL applications (or SDLGL applications) are already running pretty well. Implementing GLX direct rendering for XDirectFB has begun...

Some modifications to the client side GLX code made it possible to have Quake3 running playable. This currently is a hack but it shows that it's technically possible and the next way to go.

2003-04-28   DirectFBGL goes DRI!

Hardware accelerated OpenGL with DirectFB!

The embedded-1-branch of Mesa is a port of DRI to the framebuffer device (fullscreen only, no input). Currently supported are ATI and Matrox (after porting the driver a few days ago).

The last two days I started to generalize the driver interface to be independent from the windowing system and did the integration of DRI into DirectFBGL.

The source will be released this week after finishing the critical part. More screenshots can be found here.

2003-04-07   GTK+-DirectFB 2.0.9 updated for DirectFB 0.9.17

DirectFB 0.9.17 introduced some incompatibilities that made updates to GTK+-DirectFB necessary. For this reason, there's a new released based on GTK+-2.0.9. It requires DirectFB 0.9.17.

On the GTK+ page you will find a patched version of GTK+-2.0.9. This release needs DirectFB-0.9.17, glib-2.0.7, atk-1.0.5 and pango-1.0.5. The download area has the latest source packages of the these libraries.

Since this is the second release based on GTK+ version 2.0.9, it is labelled 2.0.9-2. Apart from updates needed for DirectFB 0.9.17, this release also features some minor bug-fixes. Please take a look at the ChangeLog.

2003-01-20   GTK+-DirectFB version 2.0.9 available

We've finally come around to do the 2.0.9 release of GTK+-DirectFB. As the version number suggests this release is based on GTK+-2.0.9. It requires the latest DirectFB (0.9.16).

On the GTK+ page you will find a patched version of GTK+-2.0.9. This release needs DirectFB-0.9.16, glib-2.0.7, atk-1.0.5 and pango-1.0.5. The download area has the latest source packages of the these libraries.

A couple of bugs have been fixed and we've done the necessary changes to adapt to the API change in DirectFB 0.9.16. If you need detailed information on what has changed, take a look at the ChangeLog.

This release is supposed to be the last release in the 2.0 series. We will soon branch CVS and start doing the necessary changes to get back in sync with GTK+ development. The next release should then be based on the latest GTK+-2.2 tarball.
